I am a writer and academic who teaches in the School of International Relations at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Before this, I worked at SOAS University of London and University College, Oxford. I have a law degree from the National Law School of India University and a doctorate in international relations from the University of Oxford where I was a Rhodes Scholar. I grew up in Bangalore, India, and currently live between Edinburgh and the Isle of Mull in Scotland.

I write about international politics, with a particular interest in how our understanding of what it means to be human is continually undone by struggles around class, race, caste, gender and sexuality. I have published three books and numerous articles on these topics. More recently, thanks to the plants, animals, fungi and people who surround me on Mull, I’ve become interested in writing about, helping to repair and living better in a more-than-human world. My work has been supported by fellowships from the Leverhulme Trust and the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

I am a member of the Radical Philosophy editorial collective, co-editor of Oxford Studies in Gender and International Relations, and was once an enthusiastic blogger on The Disorder of Things.

I am represented by Jessica Bullock at The Wylie Agency. Some of the work that is listed but not accessible on this website may be found on academia.edu.
